It took me around 50 pages to get into the story and engage with the characters but once I did, I was hooked. I read this book in small doses savoring each new bit of information and each new character. The writing was languid almost mimicking the book's setting, the lethargic movements of people wrapped in the heat and humidity of the South. Fully developed and realistically flawed characters. The plot and mystery are as complex as the people and I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.
